Pirate Cookie Pirate Cookie

Black Sugar Pirate Ship (Korean: 검은설탕 해적선, gomeunsoltang haejoksson) is a Breakout Episode released with Salt Cookie Salt Cookie in the first half of the Black Sugar Pirate Ship update. It's a Breakout Episode that is filled to the brim with Coins, treasure chests, and other valuable artifacts. It is also the home of many pirates, with Pirate Cookie Pirate Cookie's ship as the Breakout Episode's icon. The Episode also hosts a mysterious Squid Ink Cookie sea monster that attacks the running Cookie and their surrounding on occasion.

Being the third Breakout Episode introduced to Cookie Run: OvenBreak after City of the Millennial Tree, it had its own slot (referred to as Special Episode 2) in the Breakout Menu, as well as many unique mechanics regarding the collection of Coins that's tied to it. However, it was then rotated out several times for other Coin Breakout Episodes, like the original incarnation of The City of Wizards, and the Spooky Spider Mansion, until its temporary retirement in The Isle of Awakening Dragons with the release of Random Challenge. It then returned a few years later with the re-addition of the Coin Breakouts in the Lights, Camera, Action! update.

Prior to its re-addition in the Lights, Camera, Action! update, the Breakout Episode was unique in that it only calculated the amount of Coins the player collected overall for its rank and leaderboards, requiring the extensive use of Coin-related Cookies like Mint Choco Cookie Mint Choco Cookie, Cheesecake Cookie Cheesecake Cookie, and Pirate Cookie Pirate Cookie. It was reworked later to be a normal scoring Breakout Episode, only providing bonus points for Coins.

Gameplay Elements[]

Black Sugar Pirate Ship hosts a variety of unique gameplay elements that were originally exclusive to it, which encompasses the following:

Pirate Coins[]

Pirate coins example

The Pirate Coins.

Regarded as the Breakout Episode's main and most iconic gimmick, the Pirate Coins, much like their normal counterparts, come in all shapes and sizes, mainly small Silver and Gold Pirate Coins, and the Giant Silver and Gold Pirate Coins.

These Coins are scattered throughout the Episode, from the normal maps as well as its two Bonus Time layouts. Previously, Pirate Coins were unaffected by super magnetism effects, such as those from Cookies like Lemon Cookie Lemon Cookie. However, this changed with the recent Falling Constellation Rescue! update, which made Pirate Coins susceptible to these effects. Currently, There are only two Cookies who can naturally magnetize them, Pirate Cookie Pirate Cookie, and Sorbet Shark Cookie Sorbet Shark Cookie, fitting as they are pirates.

Ignoring their use in the Episode, these Coins can also be found in other game modes, with their most notable use being in the Lost City of Sugarteara Breakout Episode and its followup, Deep Sea City Wandercrab.

Coin Chests[]

First introduced in this Episode, these Coin Chests can be found in the Treasure Island stage, where Cookies can destroy them using their Skill, or whilst in Giant Mode or Blast Mode, or with other means using their equipped Pet and Treasures. Once destroyed, the chests spawn Coins for the player to collect.

Coins Chests have been further expanded upon over the years, and have appeared in many different appearances depending on the map they came from, such as with Sands of Yogurca Breakout Episode.

Image Details

1. Dangerous Ship Deck[]

Gold Gem300

A ship deck filled with weaponry and skeletons to get in the path of the player. There are many fast-moving obstacles in this area. Coins are in very large clusters here, but the clusters are mostly less valuable Coins.

2. Hungry Sea Monster[]

Gold Gem320

With the background of a vicious sea monster attacking a ship and a storm clearly brewing, there are many cannonball and tentacle obstacles to avoid here. Uniquely, this stage starts out with a clap of thunder and a lightning effect turns the whole screen pitch black for a moment.

3. Treasure Island[]

Gold Gem380

Pirate ghosts haunt the area here, trying to stop the Cookies from breaking open all their old treasure chests, which all contain a large chunk of Coins each. There are also quite a few booby traps in this stage.

Changelog[]

Deprecated Mechanics[]

Ancient Coin Pouch[]

Ancient coin pouch

While running in this Episode, the player previously could also obtain Ancient Coin Pouches appearing at random. These appear in the same fixed positions, but whether they actually appear is semi-randomly determined based on how many runs the player has already done, as the more runs the player has done in a day, the fewer Pouches appear.

These Ancient Coin Pouches would contain Ancient Coins, which could be spent at the Ocean Shop.

Ocean Shop[]

Ocean shop

A screenshot of the Ocean Shop.

The main shop for the Breakout Episode. Uniquely, it's the first instance of a Breakout Episode-related Shop, preceding the general Breakout Shop by an entire year.

As stated previously, the Ancient Coins that the player has collected during their run in the Episode can be exchanged here for various goods, like Cookies, Pets (including the new Legendary Pet at the time, Ocean Dragon Ocean Dragon), Magic Candy Ingredients, and a Costume for Pirate Cookie Pirate Cookie, Sea Overlord Sea Overlord.

Trivia[]

  • Black Sugar Pirate Ship is likely meant to be a throwback to the first Special Episode of LINE Cookie Run, Ghost Pirate's Island of Coins, with a very similar theme and its focus on Pirate Cookie.
  • Cookies used to not use up stamina while running in Black Sugar Pirate Ship.
