Metalmuncher (Korean: 불가사리, bulgasali, "Starfish") is an NPC that first appears in Yakgwa Village: Haunting Tales update's event game mode and story, Yakgwa Village: Haunting Tales. While Metalmuncher does not have any sprites story-wise, it takes the role as one of the monsters that Gim Cookie needs to exorcise.
At the market, Okchun Cookie and
Gim Cookie hear the news that the villagers' farming tools have disappeared, and they saw a large animal disappear in the distance afterwards. Sweet Yakgwa Villager mentions that it isn't the first time that this happened. Gim Cookie makes the connection that if it's devouring farming tools, then it's the work of a Metalmuncher goblin. Okchun Cookie decides to tag along Gim Cookie to exorcise the ghost.
The Yakgwa Villagers then lead them to the place where they saw the Metalmuncher. The Cookies wait for the ghost to appear. After a while passes with no sign of the Metalmuncher, Okchun Cookie suggests that they disguise as farmers and play bait. The Cookies continue to stake out the fields, disguised as farmers, waiting for a sign of the Metalmuncher. Gim Cookie mentions that his talisman weakens when the sun sets, and they should head back when night falls. Time passes idly, and just as they are about to leave, the Metalmuncher appears. Gim Cookie exorcises the ghost while all other Cookies threw away their tools and hid.
Trivia[]
- Metalmuncher makes an appearance in Gim Cookie's Ghost Index 👻, with a description that reads as such:
- A goblin made of metal is said to possess the body of a lion and the nose of an elephant's trunk. It eagerly consumes metal, even taking away farming tools. The more metal it eats, the more it becomes invincible.
- As its Korean name suggests, Metalmuncher is based upon the bulgasali (불가사리), a nigh-unkillable, often tapir or elephant-like creature in Korean folklore that eats metal (not to be confused with the Korean word for "starfish").
