Stories in Cookie Run: OvenBreak are collections of cutscenes that accompany most updates. They are the main source of lore and worldbuilding in the game, with others including Cookie and Pet descriptions, Costume descriptions, Jelly Shape descriptions, and Relationship Charts.
While Stories were always a centric part of the game as it can be seen with the Island of Memories and the very first iteration of the City of Wizards event, the first instance of a Story using the current storytelling format (i.e. Cookies talking with a speech box underneath their portraits) was in Carrot Cookie's Trial during the Carrot Clash update, with the Carrot Clash story. The system was then refined following the release of
Langue de Chat Cookie in the first half of the Face the Trial! update, where it slightly resembles the aesthetics of the stories found in Cookie Run: Kingdom.
Unlocking Stories[]
Events[]
Most stories are unlocked by completing objectives related to the update’s main event. The event game mode usually tends to follow the same theme of the story, and the game mechanics tend to relate to the story in some way.
Story Keys[]
After their associated event period ends, event related stories that are stored in the story player can be unlocked using Story Keys. One part of a story costs 10 Story Keys to unlock.
Story Key's are obtainable by completing missions that reset weekly.

Main Story[]
Certain story cutscenes can be unlocked by completing stages in the Main Story game mode. These include GingerBrave’s Tale, The Miracle of Winter Gifts!, The Treasure and the Crow, The Truth of the City, The Treasure of Legends (A Temporary Alliance and The Treasure of Legends only), Happy Cookie Festival, and Mission! Save the Future!. The cutscenes play in between stages, and are stored in the story player, where they can be viewed again.
Breakout[]
Updates that release a new Breakout Main Episode usually have their story cutscenes attached to the new breakout episode. Completing objectives related to the breakout episode, usually things like collecting a certain number of Jellies or Coins, will gradually unlock all parts of the story. Newer Breakout Episodes, such as Fragrant Lotus Paradise and Lustrous Longan Palace, have their cutscenes stored in the story player, while older ones, like Spooky Spider Mansion and Sands of Yogurca do not. However, these stories can be viewed in the breakout game mode whenever the episode rotates back into the game as a special episode.
Cookie Trials[]
Certain Cookie Trials have stories attached to them. These include Plum Cookie and Peach Cookie, Carrot Cookie and Beet Cookie, and Chestnut Cookie and Pudding Cookie. Dino-Sour Cookie also has a story with his Trial, but it is stored in the story player as Adventure #2 of Finding the Dragon. These are generally very short and follow a pair of Cookies.
Story Player[]
In the Operation Timeguard update on October 23, 2020, a story player was added to the game that would store all of the main update stories and some shorter stories that were introduced from that point onwards. Upon release, it contained the pre-Season 6 version of GingerBrave’s Tale, Finding the Dragon chapters 1-4, and Operation Timeguard.
